According to scientific research kids from 4-8 years of age should get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day 6 days a week. And older kids need as much as an hour to an hour and a half. We’ve all seen the reports on the news about how kids are not getting enough exercise and becoming obese, and it’s not just happening here in America anymore. This epidemic is spreading across the globe.

The more kids stay indoors and play video games or watch TV the more sedentary they become. I’ve noticed this with my own son and it’s hard to get him to go outside and just play. He loves playing his game system and it’s always a fight to get him to put down the controller. Even in his elementary school he doesn’t get enough exercise, especially when there are rainy days when they can’t go out to play.

There are a few games available for certain game systems that involve exercise but most of these games are geared toward adults. They aren’t necessarily built for fun or to keep kids engaged. So the key is to find games that get our kids moving so that they can get their daily requirement of exercise basically without them knowing about it. I mean, let’s face it, if we told them it was good for them they wouldn’t want to have anything to do with it.
